Chase Credit Card QuickBooks Import: Download Chase Credit Card Transactions to QuickBooks as a QBO File

Drop a Chase card statement PDF into the converter, check the charges against the statement's new balance, and download a .qbo file written as a credit card account. It covers the months Chase's own QuickBooks download does not reach, closed cards, and the statements clients email you without handing over their Chase login.

Quick answer

Chase lets card holders download recent activity as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file from chase.com on a computer, and Chase describes that window as roughly the last two years. For anything older, a closed card, or a statement you only have as a PDF, convert the Chase statement PDF to a .qbo file and import it into the credit card account: Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files in Desktop.

Chase's own QBO download, and where it stops

Chase is one of the few card issuers that still hands you a QuickBooks file. On chase.com, open the card, choose the download icon on the activity page, and pick QuickBooks Web Connect (QBO) as the file type. If the months you need fall inside that window and you have the login, use it. It costs nothing and imports cleanly. The converter is for everything below.

Situation Chase .qbo download What gets the transactions in
Months older than the download window Not offered. Chase's help describes card downloads as covering about the last two years. The statement PDFs, which Chase keeps for seven years, converted to .qbo.
Client sent PDFs, not a login Only the account holder can sign in and download it. Convert the PDFs the client already emailed. No shared credentials.
Card closed, replaced or product-changed Access to the old account's activity can end or move to the new card number. Statements saved before closing, imported into the old card account.
Working from the Chase mobile app Chase says the full set of export formats is a desktop feature and may be limited on mobile. Save the statement PDF from the app and convert it.
QuickBooks Desktop version past its support date A .qbo import needs an Intuit sign-in inside Desktop, which discontinued versions lose. An IIF file written as a credit card account, which imports with no Intuit service.

Three ways a Chase card import goes wrong

These are the problems that show up at reconciliation, after the import looked fine. Two of them come from converters that treat a card statement like a checking statement, and one from QuickBooks itself.

Purchases arrive as deposits

A Chase statement prints purchases as positive amounts and payments with a minus sign. Carry those signs into an import file and every charge posts as money in. Our export writes card statements from the account's point of view: purchases as charges, payments and returns as credits.

The card account is missing from the list

When you import a Web Connect file, QuickBooks asks which account it belongs to. If the Chase card has no account in your chart of accounts yet, it will not appear. An Intuit moderator's fix in a Chase thread was simply to choose Create New Account in that drop-down, as a credit card type.

Interest and fees are skipped

Chase lists fees and interest charged in their own sections below purchases, and shows a rewards summary that is not a transaction at all. Read only the purchase table and the balance is off by the interest. Check the extracted total against the new balance before you download.

How to download Chase credit card transactions to QuickBooks from a PDF

Step 1

Save the Chase statements

On chase.com open the card, go to Statements and documents, and save each month as a PDF. Clients can do the same and email the files, which keeps their login private.

Step 2

Convert and check

Drop the statements into the converter. Purchases, payments, returns, fees and interest appear with dates and merchants. Compare the total with the previous and new balance, and fix any row that disagrees.

Step 3

Download QBO or IIF

QBO for QuickBooks Online and supported Desktop versions. IIF for Desktop versions without Web Connect, written as credit card charges and refunds on a credit card account.

Step 4

Import into the card account

Online: Transactions, Bank transactions, Link account, Upload from file, then pick the Chase card. Desktop: File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files. Import the oldest month first and match in For review.

Chase credit card to QuickBooks: five routes compared

Honest version: the bank feed and Chase's own QBO download are the cheapest routes and you should use them when they cover what you need. A converter earns its fee on history, on client work without logins, and on Desktop files Intuit no longer services.

Who converts Chase card statements for QuickBooks

Bookkeepers doing catch-up work

A new client ran two years of business spending on a Sapphire or Amazon Prime Visa card and never connected it. They email you 24 PDFs and will not share their Chase password. Converting the stack and importing oldest first finishes the card account in an evening.

Sole proprietors behind on a tax year

You mix business charges on a personal Freedom card and your CPA wants the year in QuickBooks before filing. The statements are the record your preparer trusts, and a .qbo file lets you categorize the business charges without retyping any of them.

Desktop firms on an older version

The company file lives on a Desktop version Intuit stopped servicing, so Web Connect is unreliable and the feed is gone. IIF output from the same Chase statements keeps the card register current without forcing an upgrade mid-year.

Questions about Chase credit cards and QuickBooks

How do I get a QBO file from Chase?

Sign in at chase.com on a computer, open the card, select the download icon on the activity page, choose QuickBooks Web Connect (QBO) as the file type and pick the date range. Chase offers roughly the last two years that way. For older months, convert the statement PDF to a .qbo file instead.

How do I download Chase credit card transactions to QuickBooks?

You have three options: connect the card in QuickBooks for ongoing months, download a .qbo file from chase.com for recent activity, or convert the statement PDFs for anything older or anything you only have on paper. Import files into the credit card account, never into checking.

Why is my Chase QBO file not showing my account in QuickBooks?

QuickBooks only lists accounts that already exist in your chart of accounts. Choose Create New Account in the import drop-down and set it up as a credit card account, then finish the import. The same fix applies whether the file came from Chase or from a converter.

Can I import Chase credit card transactions older than two years?

Yes, from the statements. Chase keeps up to seven years of statement PDFs online, while its activity download reaches back about two years. Convert each older statement to .qbo and import them oldest first so the card balance builds forward correctly.

Why do my Chase card purchases show as deposits in QuickBooks?

The imported file carried the statement's positive purchase amounts, or it was written as a bank account. Undo the imported batch, then import a file that declares a credit card account with purchases as charges. Every card file from this converter is written that way.

Does this work for the Amazon Prime Visa and other Chase co-brand cards?

Yes. Chase issues the Amazon Prime Visa and airline and hotel co-brand cards, and their statements follow the Chase card layout: payments and credits, purchases, then fees and interest. They convert like a Sapphire or Freedom statement, and scanned copies are read with OCR.

Can I upload a Chase CSV into QuickBooks Desktop?

Not as bank transactions. QuickBooks Desktop imports .qbo Web Connect files, and IIF on versions without Web Connect, but has no bank CSV import. QuickBooks Online accepts a 3 or 4 column CSV, though you map the columns each time and re-imports can duplicate.

How much does it cost to convert Chase statements to QBO?

Starter is $49 a month for 50 documents, Plus is $149 for 200 and Pro is $499 for unlimited, with yearly billing at half the monthly rate. One statement is one document, so two years of one Chase card fits in Starter. You can try a statement before creating an account.
