Three different things answer to that name, and the search results mix all of them together. Sorting them out takes about a minute and saves you from buying a per device license you cannot use, or installing an installer nobody has signed in years.

What happened to the PDF2QBO software

Both vendors moved the same direction, a few years apart, and for the same reason: maintaining one installer per format combination stopped making sense once banks started changing statement layouts several times a year.

ProperSoft became ProperConvert

ProperSoft used to sell a small app for every pairing: PDF2QBO, CSV2QBO, Bank2QBO, and dozens more. Those are now one product, ProperConvert, which reads PDF, CSV, QIF, OFX, QFX and MT940 and writes QBO, IIF, QBJ and the rest. It runs entirely on your own machine, so nothing is uploaded, which is the reason a lot of firms still prefer it.

The licensing is the part to read carefully. An individual plan is $19.99 per month or $179.99 per year and covers one person on one device, a computer or a remote terminal. The team plan is $49.98 per month or $449.97 per year for three users across three devices. If you work on a laptop and a desktop, that is two seats, not one.

MoneyThumb moved to a conversion count

MoneyThumb still publishes the PDF2QBO Convert help pages, and still describes Pro, Pro+ and Express licenses, with Pro+ bundling a year of the PDF+ text recognition module for scanned statements on Windows. What it no longer does is show a price for them in the shop. The shop leads with MoneyThumb Online for QuickBooks instead.

That product is metered by conversion: $24.95 per month for five, $49.95 for twenty, $99.95 for sixty, or annually $199.95 for sixty conversions, $399.95 for 240 and $799.95 for 800. MoneyThumb lists compatibility as QuickBooks Online, every edition except Self Employed, and QuickBooks Desktop 2023 through 2025.

About those download mirrors

Search for the name and most of the first page is software aggregator sites rather than vendors. They list builds numbered 3.7, 4.0.76 and 12.4, mirrored from releases that are no longer current. Think about what you are about to do with that installer: feed it a bank statement containing your account number, your balance and every payee you dealt with last quarter. An unmaintained build of financial software, downloaded from a site with no relationship to the vendor, is not the place for that file. If you want the desktop route, buy it from ProperSoft or MoneyThumb directly.

What is PDF2QBO?

PDF2QBO is a product name that two vendors used for software that converts PDF bank statements into .qbo files for QuickBooks. ProperSoft has folded its version into ProperConvert, and MoneyThumb now points the name at MoneyThumb Online for QuickBooks. There is no file format called PDF2QBO, only the .qbo Web Connect format they all produce.

Is PDF2QBO free?
