For startup finance teams and fractional CFOs
SVB QuickBooks Import for Silicon Valley Bank PDF Statements
Silicon Valley Bank statements already hold every wire, ACH and card payment your company made. Convert the SVB statement PDF into a .qbo file for QuickBooks Online or Desktop, or IIF for older Desktop releases, and import a month in a few minutes instead of waiting on a bank connection.
Convert an SVB statement
Drop the monthly PDF, check the rows against the balance, download .qbo or IIF.
No credit card required to try your first statement.
Quick answer
SVB connects to QuickBooks through Direct Connect, which needs a separate Direct Connect PIN created in SVB online banking, and SVB online banking can also export a .qbo Web Connect file for a date range. For months you cannot download, a closed account, or a client who only sends PDFs, convert the SVB statement PDF to a QuickBooks file and import it.
When SVB transactions do not reach QuickBooks
Most SVB clients are venture-backed companies with a lean finance function, so the books often start late and get caught up in a rush before a board meeting, an audit or a raise. These are the four cases we see most.
The connection asks for a PIN you never made
Direct Connect does not use your normal SVB login. Someone with SVB admin rights has to generate the Direct Connect PIN first, and that person is often busy.
The books start a year late
The founders ran the company from the SVB account and a spreadsheet. Now an investor or auditor wants QuickBooks, and the history lives in twelve monthly PDFs.
The SVB account is closed
Plenty of companies moved their cash in 2023. A bank feed needs an account you can still sign in to, so a closed account's months come from the statements you saved.
You are the outside accountant
Fractional CFOs and outsourced accounting firms rarely get an SVB login on day one. The client emails PDFs, and the engagement has to start anyway.
What changed at SVB, and what it means for your QuickBooks file
SVB has been through more change than most banks in a short time. Knowing the dates helps you decide which months need a statement import.
-
Early 2023
SVB moves online banking users to SVB Go. A February 24, 2023 QuickBooks Community thread reports the QuickBooks connection failing after the switch, with an "SVB Go" option that threw errors.
-
March 2023
Silicon Valley Bank becomes a division of First Citizens Bank. Many startups open accounts elsewhere and some close their SVB accounts.
-
September 2023
A user in the same thread posts the fix that worked for them. In SVB, open the profile, Manage Direct Connect, generate a Direct Connect PIN, then sign in from QuickBooks with that username and PIN.
-
Q4 2026
First Citizens says Silicon Valley Bank rebrands to First Citizens Innovation Banking, and that online banking and products are unchanged. Your statements keep their format, so they convert the same way.
Which file to make for your QuickBooks edition
The SVB statement is the same in every case. What changes is the file your QuickBooks can open, so check the edition before you convert a year of PDFs.
| QuickBooks edition | SVB connection | File to import from the PDF |
|---|---|---|
| QuickBooks Online | Direct Connect with the separate PIN, for the dates the connection brings in. | .qbo, through Bank transactions, Link account, Upload from file. Use it for months the connection does not cover. |
| Desktop Pro, Premier, Enterprise (supported release) | Direct Connect, or a .qbo Web Connect file exported from SVB online banking for a date range. | Web Connect .qbo, through File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files, into the existing account. |
| Desktop 2023 and older | No bank feeds. Intuit discontinued the 2023 releases on May 31, 2026, including Web Connect. | IIF, through File, Utilities, Import, IIF Files. |

How to import SVB statements into QuickBooks
Four steps, and the slow one is collecting the PDFs.
1
Collect the statements
Save each monthly SVB statement as a PDF, or ask the founder or controller to email them. No login sharing needed.
2
Convert and check
Drop the PDF into the converter and compare the rows with the opening and closing balance on the review screen.
3
Download .qbo or IIF
Pick .qbo for QuickBooks Online or a supported Desktop release, IIF for Desktop 2023 and older.
4
Import oldest first and reconcile
Import into the existing account, accept the lines, and reconcile each month to the statement's ending balance before the next.
Who converts SVB statements to QuickBooks
Fractional CFOs onboarding a startup
A new client after a seed or Series A round, a year of SVB activity and no QuickBooks history. Convert the year in one sitting and hand the board reconciled books in the first month.
Controllers preparing for an audit or a raise
Diligence asks for bank reconciliations that tie to statements. If the feed skipped months or the account closed in 2023, the statements are the clean source.
Tax preparers closing a prior year
R&D credit studies and Delaware franchise tax filings both lean on complete books. Fill the missing months from SVB statements and file on time.
Four ways to get SVB activity into QuickBooks, compared
If Direct Connect works for you, keep it for daily activity. The other routes are for everything it does not reach.
| Route | Good for | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Direct Connect | Ongoing activity in an account you control. | Needs an SVB admin to create the PIN, and it cannot reach a closed account. |
| .qbo export from SVB online banking | A date range you can still download while signed in. | Needs the login and only covers what online banking still offers for download. |
| Typing from the statement | A handful of lines. | A startup month with payroll, card payments and wires is an hour or more of keying. |
| SVB statement PDF converted to .qbo or IIF | Any month you have a statement for, on any QuickBooks edition, without the login. | Paid after the first try, and you still collect the PDFs. It does not replace a working connection for daily activity. |
Three details that keep an SVB import clean
Card statements go to a card account
If the company also carries an SVB card, convert that statement with the credit card account type so charges post as charges. The credit card statement to QuickBooks converter covers that side.
Do not import over the connection
A converted file carries its own transaction IDs, not the bank's, so QuickBooks will not recognize lines Direct Connect already brought in. Import only the dates the connection missed.
Moving banks after SVB
If you opened a new bank in 2023, the transfer out of SVB appears on both statements. Record it once as a transfer. The guide to fixing QuickBooks after switching banks walks through the cutover.
Questions about SVB and QuickBooks
Does SVB work with QuickBooks?
Yes. SVB supports QuickBooks through Direct Connect, which uses a Direct Connect PIN you create in SVB online banking, and through .qbo Web Connect files you can export for a date range. For months you cannot download or a closed account, convert the SVB statement PDF to a .qbo or IIF file and import it.
How do I connect SVB Go to QuickBooks?
Create a Direct Connect PIN first. A September 2023 QuickBooks Community post describes the steps that worked: in SVB, open the profile, choose Manage Direct Connect, generate the PIN, and note the username it gives you. Then add the bank in QuickBooks and sign in with that username and PIN, not your SVB Go password.
Why can't I connect QuickBooks to SVB after the switch to SVB Go?
Usually because the connection still expects your online banking login. After the 2023 move to SVB Go, users reported errors until they generated a Direct Connect PIN and used those credentials. If you cannot get the PIN in time for a close, import the month from the statement PDF and connect later.
Will the First Citizens rebrand change my SVB QuickBooks connection?
First Citizens says Silicon Valley Bank becomes First Citizens Innovation Banking in Q4 2026 and that online banking and products are unchanged, with no client action required. If the bank's name in the QuickBooks list changes later, statement PDFs still convert the same way.
How do I import SVB statements into QuickBooks Desktop?
Convert each SVB statement PDF to a .qbo file and import it through File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files, choosing the existing bank account. On Desktop 2023 or older, which Intuit discontinued on May 31, 2026, convert to IIF and use File, Utilities, Import, IIF Files.
Can I get transactions from a closed SVB account into QuickBooks?
Yes, if you have the statements. QuickBooks can only link an account you can still sign in to, so a closed account's history comes from the monthly PDFs. Convert each one to .qbo or IIF and import them oldest first into an account named for the old SVB account.
How much does it cost to convert SVB statements?
Starter is $49 a month for 50 documents, Plus is $149 for 200, and Pro is $499 for unlimited, with yearly billing at half the monthly rate. You can convert one statement without an account to see the result on screen first.
